Olympic School Visits

With Rio fast approaching its been awesome to get out and about to spread the love about the Olympic movement with the ANZ Olympic School Programme. I feel very lucky to be able to visit some pretty cool kiwi kids who have big dreams and are pumped about the upcoming Games.

When I go and visit a school as part of my role as an NZOC Olympic School Ambassador I share with the future champions my Olympic journey and align this with the Olympic values – excellence, friendship and respect. The Olympics is more than just a sporting contest every 4 years. Every day the IOC spends US$3M on sport worldwide. Sport is a fantastic pathway and I am privileged to be able to share my own experiences to hopefully empower other kiwi kids to aim high and get after their dreams as well.

At Torbay School with such a great bunch of kiwi champions! I loved visiting you guys and was so impressed at the great questions you asked

I remember clearly sports people coming to visit my primary and intermediate schools when I was growing up. It doesn’t take that much to plant a seed in a child’s mind when they realise I am just the same as them (albeit a lot more birthday candles have been blown out and a lot more training hours in the bank!). Check out my friend Julia from Torbay her blog here of my visit.

Awesome morning at Bruce McLaren Intermediate with such a lovely group of students. You guys rock and I look forward to following your journey!
